Second Harvest Northland food bank welcomes volunteers who seek to complete court-ordered community service hours.
Please read the following guidelines for information on our court-ordered service opportunities.
Policies
We review every request on a case-by-case basis. Please have your probation officer submit your request for court ordered hours by emailing a completed Community Service Agreement Form to info@secondharvestnorthland.org. If your request is approved, our requirements for court-ordered volunteering are as follows:
Schedule & Sign-Up Process | We do not allow "walk-in" volunteering under any circumstances. All volunteers must sign up for shifts via our website and may not attend any shifts that they are not signed up for. |
---|---|
Court ordered volunteers must sign up for hours through our website and are entirely responsible for managing their schedule to ensure they complete their hours on time. We cannot make additions or changes to our schedule in order to provide additional hours. | |
Attendance | All hours used to fulfill court-ordered service must be completed at in-person volunteer opportunities. While remote or virtual opportunities occasionally arise and all volunteers are welcome to participate in them, we cannot count them towards any court-ordered service requirements. |
Volunteers must attend the shifts they sign up for. We rely heavily on volunteers to prepare the large quantities of food we provide to our community, and no-shows reduce our ability to provide this necessary food to folks in need. | |
If a volunteer knows in advance that they cannot attend a scheduled shift, they must "unregister" themselves from the shift through our volunteer website. Visit our "Having Trouble?" page for a walkthrough if you need help unregistering for a shift. By unregistering, they open up the spot for another volunteer to come in and help complete the task. | |
Volunteers who miss two shifts without unregistering themselves will be disqualified from completing their court-ordered hours at Second Harvest Northland food bank. | |
Volunteers must attend the full duration of any shift they sign up for. Unless coordinated in advance with the Volunteer Coordinator, volunteers may not attend partial shifts or leave shifts early when completing court-ordered hours. SHN will not round up or pro-rate hours under any circumstances. | |
Hours and Verification | All requests for verification must be submitted via email to the Volunteer Coordinator a minimum of 5 business days before they are needed. Your verification will be available for in-person pick up or via email no more than 5 business days after your request. Only the Volunteer Coordinator or a person they specifically designate may sign off on your community service hours. |
We only verify hours that have already been completed. We do not pro-rate hours or verify hours for upcoming shifts. Any attempts to falsify or misrepresent hours will result in immediate dismissal from our volunteer program. When necessary, we will communicate with court and/or other authorities to report fraudulent hours. |
