Duluth Food Shelf - Outdoor Distribution

Description

Our drive-through Food Shelf provides a monthly supply of supplemental nutritious food to those who meet income qualifications or are in crisis. Volunteers play a vital role by working outdoors to distribute food directly to cars, helping ensure the process runs safely and efficiently.

Volunteers must be able to:

  • Stand and walk, lift, bend, and carry up to 40 pounds
  • Follow food and personal safety procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Be tactful and open-minded while working with neighbors from a wide range of backgrounds and circumstances
  • Work outdoors, so please dress accordingly

A waiver must be submitted prior to volunteering.

Age Requirements: This position may be working outdoors in a parking lot around vehicle traffic. For safety reasons, all volunteers must be 15 years or older. Volunteers under 18 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Any volunteer under 18 years old MUST have a parent or guardian signature on their waiver prior to volunteering. Please see our Youth Volunteer Requirements page for more details.

Support/Training: Please arrive 10-15 minutes early and wear comfortable clothing in layers and closed-toe shoes. Safety-toe shoes or boots are recommended. Volunteers will be given instructions and training upon arrival and will have staff support and supervision throughout their shift.

Parking: Due to the food shelf line, the main entrance to our parking lot will be blocked when you arrive for your shift. To get into the parking lot, you will ignore the "do not enter" sign and take the first left turn when you turn from Commonwealth Avenue onto Nick Glumac Drive.

Reminder: We welcome you to volunteer with friends, family, and co-workers. If you are volunteering with others, please be sure to respond to this opportunity using the "Respond as a Team" feature. If you need to cancel your shift for any reason, please call 218-727-5653 or email info@secondharvestnorthland.org.
